M.S. in Civil Engineering Admission Requirements

  • Four-year undergraduate degree in civil engineering or closely related field
    • Students who do not have a B.S. in civil engineering are required to complete undergraduate courses that provide appropriate background.
      • These credits will not count towards the M.S. degree. A student’s adviser will determine the requirements for remedial courses on a case-by-case basis.
      • These courses are not available online. Students may take similar courses at other universities and submit an official transcript showing a grade of 3.0 or higher for the course to satisfy the proficiency requirement for each course.
  • Minimum Undergraduate GPA: 3.0
  • TOEFL scores (international students):
  • Duolingo English Test:
    • Regular admission: Score of 110 or higher
    • Provisional admission: Score of 95-105
  • See the International Students page for more information.

M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering Admission Requirements

  • Four-year undergraduate degree in electrical engineering or closely related field
    • Applicants without an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a similar area will be required to enroll and achieve a minimum grade of 3.0 in three qualifying core courses regardless of regular or provisional admission status.

      Qualifying Core Courses (choose three):

      • Deep Learning and Neural Networks
      • Robotics
      • Linear Systems and Control
      • Advanced Electromagnetic Fields and Waves I
      • Advanced Power Electronics and Applications
      • Physical Electronics
      • Analysis of Stochastic Systems

Students who can verify they have taken an undergraduate junior- or senior-level course closely related to the above can petition the Graduate Studies Committee to consider qualifying for the proficiency requirement.

  • Minimum Undergraduate GPA: 3.0
  • Minimum TOEFL Scores (International Students): 550
  • Duolingo English Test (International Students):

M.S. in Mechanical Engineering Admission Requirements

  • Four-year undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering or closely related field
    • Applicants without a degree in mechanical engineering must, during the course of study, show proficiency in three of the following courses: ME 332 Fluid Mechanics, ME 451 Controls, ME 410: Heat Transfer, ME 461 Vibrations, and ME 423 Intermediate Mechanics of Deformable Solids.
    • Please consult with the ME Graduate Coordinator on how past and future coursework can be used to demonstrate proficiency.
  • Minimum undergraduate GPA: 3.0
    • While we require a 3.0 overall GPA for admission, we make exceptions for candidates who show they have the core knowledge for success in our program. Candidates without a 3.0 GPA but with strong academic performance in the fundamental classes (strength of materials, statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, fluids, heat transfer, vibrations, etc.) will also be considered for admittance.
  • Minimum TOEFL Scores (International Students): 550
  • Duolingo English Test (International Students):
