M.S. in Civil Engineering Admission Requirements
- Four-year undergraduate degree in civil engineering or closely related field
- Students who do not have a B.S. in civil engineering are required to complete undergraduate courses that provide appropriate background.
- These credits will not count towards the M.S. degree. A student’s adviser will determine the requirements for remedial courses on a case-by-case basis.
- These courses are not available online. Students may take similar courses at other universities and submit an official transcript showing a grade of 3.0 or higher for the course to satisfy the proficiency requirement for each course.
- Minimum Undergraduate GPA: 3.0

M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering Admission Requirements
- Four-year undergraduate degree in electrical engineering or closely related field
- Applicants without an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a similar area will be required to enroll and achieve a minimum grade of 3.0 in three qualifying core courses regardless of regular or provisional admission status.
Qualifying Core Courses (choose three):- Deep Learning and Neural Networks
- Robotics
- Linear Systems and Control
- Advanced Electromagnetic Fields and Waves I
- Advanced Power Electronics and Applications
- Physical Electronics
- Analysis of Stochastic Systems
Students who can verify they have taken an undergraduate junior- or senior-level course closely related to the above can petition the Graduate Studies Committee to consider qualifying for the proficiency requirement.
- Applicants without an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a similar area will be required to enroll and achieve a minimum grade of 3.0 in three qualifying core courses regardless of regular or provisional admission status.

M.S. in Mechanical Engineering Admission Requirements
- Four-year undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering or closely related field
- Applicants without a degree in mechanical engineering must, during the course of study, show proficiency in three of the following courses: ME 332 Fluid Mechanics, ME 451 Controls, ME 410: Heat Transfer, ME 461 Vibrations, and ME 423 Intermediate Mechanics of Deformable Solids.
- Please consult with the ME Graduate Coordinator on how past and future coursework can be used to demonstrate proficiency.
- Minimum undergraduate GPA: 3.0
- While we require a 3.0 overall GPA for admission, we make exceptions for candidates who show they have the core knowledge for success in our program. Candidates without a 3.0 GPA but with strong academic performance in the fundamental classes (strength of materials, statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, fluids, heat transfer, vibrations, etc.) will also be considered for admittance.

Two copies from all previous universities attended (undergraduate and graduate) - Three letters of recommendation
Applicants should request letters of recommendation through the graduate education portal. Once their contact information is entered, the MSU application system will reach out to the letter writers. - Academic and personal statements
Your academic statement should describe your plans for graduate study, career goals, and how the program will help you meet your objectives (2 pages). Your personal statement should concisely describe how your background and life experiences influenced your decision to pursue a graduate degree (2 pages). - Application fee: $65 domestic, $75 international
- International applications: Official TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo test score report. International applicants must also ensure that MSU receives copies of all supplemental documents by the application deadline. These documents will include one hard copy of your official transcripts, an affidavit of support and financial proof statements. If MSU does not receive all documents by the deadline, your application will not be reviewed, and you will need to defer to a later semester.
