Michigan State University is dedicated to the global engineering community, and we welcome international students. In addition to the standard admission requirements, applicants whose first language is not English should submit their TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo test scores.
Successful international applicants generally meet the following requirements:
- TOEFL Paper-based test (PBT): minimum average score of 550, no subscore below 52
- TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT): minimum average score of 80, no subscore below 19 for reading, listening, and speaking; no writing subscore below 22
- IELTS: minimum average score of 6.5, no subscore below 6.0
- Duolingo English Test: score of 110 or higher for regular admission, score of 95-105 for provisional admission
- GRE quantitative/verbal/writing scores are optional
Please note the following:
- International applicants should be aware that, because these programs are offered entirely online, MSU cannot issue student visas.
- Applicants may take the Duolingo test online and request scores be sent directly to Michigan State University.
- International applicants must also ensure that MSU receives copies of all supplemental documents by the application deadline. These documents will include one hard copy of your official transcripts, an affidavit of support and financial proof statements. If MSU does not receive all documents by the deadline, your application will not be reviewed, and you will need to defer to a later semester.
The MSU Office of International Students and Scholars is an important resource for further information.
