Online Learning at MSU

Michigan State University is committed to delivering a quality, accessible online learning experience. Course material and recorded video lectures are typically delivered via the MSU Desire2Learn course website. The lecture format and style will vary somewhat by the course; if you have any questions about the delivery of course material, please reach out to your instructor.

Live sessions may also be scheduled at the instructor’s discretion, and these are offered through the Zoom platform.

While there is no college-wide rule for time spent per each course, successful students spend, on average, three hours of study for every one hour of lecture.

Some online courses available through the MSU College of Engineering may require students to use an exam proctoring service. Those who are able to come to campus may use the MSU Testing Office, which charges $20 per exam for MSU students. The National College Testing Association offers a searchable map of national proctoring services, which range in price from $20 to $50 per exam.
